Vacation update on hold due to...

I have been meaning to get to our update on our vacation but it has felt like a couple of very long weeks since we were on it. Both Mike and I really felt out of it the first week back due to trying to get our land legs back. We haven't been eating too well because of the nausea associated with trying to get our land legs back.

Mike seems better now. However, I am still battling nausea but not because of the cruise anymore but because it is an unfortunate side effect of my pain medication that I was battling before the cruise, during the cruise and still now.

I had my follow up Dr visit this week and because it is still considered one of the safest of this type of pain medication, they gave me another medication to hopefully help the stomach problems... yet another 'ole lady drug... Pepcid prescription for acid reflux/possible stomach ulcer.

I go back again next month to see if this helps because they don't like prescribing actual anti-nausea meds with it because of the potential to cause seizures. Ya, no thank you on that side effect. Nausea is annoying and bothersome but seizures scare the crap out of me.

Mike and I have been talking and we are beginning to think that dealing with the pain might be a better alternative to the constant nausea and other possible reactions. I have developed a pretty high pain threshold over the years but the constant nausea is kicking my ass hardcore. Most days I am useless for more than a couple of hours at a time and then I need to lie down to try to stop the nausea for awhile. I am hardly eating and when I do, it just makes things worse.

It also worries us that there are a lot of reports of people who have very nasty withdrawals going off of this med. More than a few have reported it as being as bad as or worse than heroine withdrawals. Those reports seem to be from people who have been on it 2 years+ so I am still a long ways from that but it is still worrisome.

So we are being cautious and weighing the benefits of the pain free being to the side effects... Going to give it this month and see if the pepcid helps with the nausea or not.

As well, going to see if I can keep the pain away still by reducing the dose. The prescription has been for 3 times a day until this month when they changed it to 3 times a day as needed giving me some flexibility in seeing if a lower dose will keep the pain away as well as help lower the side effects.

Tomorrow is my 36th birthday and I think it is official, my line up of medications is telling me I have entered middle age!! I am even having to use one of those 4 slots/day 7 day pill organizers to keep everything straight. Uggg... middle age you suck!!

Even as bad as this may sound, Mike and I are doing well. It is spring here and the weather has been pretty nice. We are starting to talk of our summer house renovation plans. We still have a number of small projects to finish inside and would like to make the outside look better and the backyard more of an oasis to spend time out in.

Oh, hey--bad timing on my part. I just sent you your HAPPY BIRTHDAY! email wherein I asked you the questions you answered here. :-)

Sorry to hear about the nausea; that would flatten me too. Certain kinds of pain really are easier to manage than feeling sick. I hope you get the medications straightened out to the point where you can function really well. (((*hugs*)))

And, again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have a really good day, Sis.
