I haven't done any scrapping this weekend because I have been trying to rest up a wrist injury. Thus, I have been trying to stay away from the computer a bit more to give it the needed rest I should give it.So instead of any scrapping related post, I thought I would tell you about a family member I recently got to spend more time with when we went home for a visit.
I would like to introduce you all to probably the least talked about member of my family... Alex. If I remember correctly, Alexander Graham Bear is his full name.
However, I am not definite on that because I remember at the time, my mother wanting to give him the name Sigmoid because of the reason that he came to be part of the family. However, he is now known well in the family as Alex. We all know who you mean when you talk about Alex.
Alex is my mother's teddy bear... He isn't a teddy bear she has had all her life or anything vintage like that. However, it has felt like Alex has been part of the family for more years than I can remember him not being a part of it.
He is a little teddy bear that her sister gave her as part of a balloon/teddy bear get well gift when she has a major surgery a number of years back now... she had a surgery involving her sigmoid colon thus why at the time, the name Sigmoid was being thrown around as a possible name. So very glad it was only thrown around and eventually out...
You wouldn't think that such a gift would have such a long and momentous impact on not only her life but also on the lives of more of the family. However, you see... Alex... he came with a personality and a way of bringing a smile to everyone's face when you see what he has gotten into next. He is a little curious, adventurous, mischievous little guy! ALWAYS getting into something or somewhere he shouldn't.
And don't think he gets away with his bad behavior just because he happens to come in the shape of a teddy bear! My mother disciplines him as well. Especially when he gets into something dangerous to his health or the health of those around him. He once spent an afternoon sitting in the corner because he was a bad little teddy bear and was playing with matches at the fire place. Tsk, tsk, bad Alex! and he has been good and not played with matches again. He does, however, still like to play with the wood and hang out enjoying the warmth of the fire place.
You can often find Alex "hanging" around somewhere in the house... which is fitting as he did arrive tied to a balloon which hung around the living room those first few weeks with him floating around, enjoying the view.
Although, he doesn't always pick the best places to "hang" out... like the night of our belated Thanksgiving family dinner. He chose to "hang" out by going for a spin on my mother's stained glass ornament hanging from the ceiling. But she couldn't really punish him for that being that she was the one to give him a hand up to it in the first place. You see, Alex does tend to get himself into trouble or mischief, but rarely does he manage to get into it without a "helping" hand from someone in the family. However, we can always count on Alex to keep his mouth shut tight and not spill the beans on who is accomplice was. He is very loyal that way.
I hope you have enjoyed getting to know about my little bEArother, Alex.
Does your family have a member like Alex?

Oh ... Thank God that there are more like me out there! LOL ... my husband gave me a stuffed dog (Rocky) on our month anniversary of dating. The things that this poor animal goes through ... but, the antics behind it keep us laughing, and that's all that matters!
November 15, 2009 1:32 AMAlex sounds like such a fab miscevious bearother to have! So cute! We have George, my son's bear who is just really a tell tale. He only chats to me, telling me what my son has been up to - and escaping at night but not being able to get back into bed afterwards! I teally should put a stool next to the bed so he can get back up!
November 15, 2009 6:36 AMLoved hearing about Alex, sounds like he's lots of fun and a great bearother to have. We have Sleepy (a bear too) who tends to hang aroudn just waiting till he knows we're going away and then somehow he always manages to slip into a bag - guess he just doesn't want to be home alone.
November 15, 2009 7:02 AMStuffies are the best!! I have SO many bears around my house. Sometimes...I even forget their names, but that's okay, I do the same with my boys. ;o)
November 15, 2009 9:36 AMWhat a lovely happy tale! We used to have a bear from school - Barnaby - and we had to photogrpah him in as many differnt places as possible. We took him to Vienna!

November 15, 2009 6:00 PMAlex's tale is so endearing. We have a rubber frog that you can squeeze the his neck expands. I know, wierd huh. I saw him in the store and was playing with him but then put him back. My husband snuck him to the cash register and home. He jumps into my luggage when I go on trips, sometimes I even find him in the shower, hanging off the back of the door, on/under my pillow, on my steering wheel, etc. He doesn't have a name but he is good at him job which is to remind me how much my husband loves me. Wow, great blog!
November 15, 2009 8:11 PMI hope your wrist feels better soon Heather. That little bear sounds like he's brought some very fond memories to your family.
November 15, 2009 10:43 PMMy brother is known as the one who is the teddy bear accomplice in our family. You can often find teddy bears in places they shouldn't be or doing things that are unexpected. I hope you feel better soon!
